Butler Catholic School team scores big in competition

Seven members of Butler Catholic School’s Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science team celebrated their achievements at the PJAS regional competition on Feb. 24 at Slippery Rock University.

The team, which is comprised of seventh- and eighth-graders, is led by faculty member Jayne Chobot.

All team members received a first place designation at the competition. Sarah Burd also won the SRU Junior High Behavioral Science award, which came with a $100 cash prize.

Kamryn Martin, who earned a perfect score at the event, won the SRU Junior High Biology award, which also included a $100 cash prize.

The university’s biology department awarded Chobot $200 for having a student who received the biology award.
