James Moyer
James M. “Jim” Moyer, 85, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at UPMC Community Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg. He was the husband of the late Nancy E. (Gillon) Moyer.
Born Jan. 14, 1939, in Altoona, Pa., Jim was the son of the late James H. and Renee V. (Abb) Moyer. The family moved to Butler in 1953. Jim graduated from Butler High School in 1957 and served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1958 to 1964. Jim and Nancy were married on Aug. 29, 1964, and lived in Butler until 2004, when they moved to York to be closer to family.
Jim was employed as a finishing mill roller for ARMCO/A-K Steel and retired in 1999 after 40 years of service. A lifelong collector and hobbyist, he had many passions throughout his lifetime. From his huge beer can collection, to boating, NASCAR memorabilia, Harley Davidsons, model railroading and, most recently, street rods. He loved to drive and show his 1955 Dodge pickup and 1933 Plymouth 5-window Coupe. He was a prankster and always had a new joke to share. He adored spending time with his family and was a friend to all who met him.
Jim is survived by two sons, James R. and wife, Jacqueline Moyer, of Red Oak, Va., and Jon R. and wife, Angeline Moyer, of York, Pa.; two grandchildren, Lauren E. Moyer and James E. Moyer; a half-sister, Barbara and husband, Vern Richardson, of New Port Ritchie, Fla.; and his longtime companion, Janet Glatfelter. He was also grand “Pops” to three step-grandchildren, Lindsay Rys, Mitchell Morris and Wes Heafner.
