Bud Curran

Lewis M. “Bud” Curran, 86, of East Brady died Friday at the Oakland VA, Pittsburgh.

Born on Feb. 9, 1927, in East Brady, he was the son of Louis A. and Anna E. (Weibel) Curran.

On Oct. 14, 1950, Bud married Mary Ellen McGarrity, and she survives.

A U.S. Navy veteran, Bud served during World War II, and was the recipient of the American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal.

After his discharge from the service, Bud attended the Pittsburgh School of Refrigeration. He was the owner and operator of Curran's Market in East Brady for 45 years.

Bud was a member of the St. Eusebius Roman Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and was a former member of the Parish Council. He also was on the mowing crew at St. Eusebius Cemetery for 20 years.

Bud was a member of the American Legion Post 488, Bradys Bend. He enjoyed gardening, mowing his lawn, and he especially loved his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Ellen Curran of East Brady; his daughter, Marcia Sweeney and her husband, Rich, of East Brady; his two sons, Mike Curran and his wife, Sherry, of East Brady and Jim Curran and his wife, Darla, of Chicora; and his sister, Lorraine Lewis of East Brady.

Also surviving are his two granddaughters, Amanda Gallagher (Corey) and Michelle Sweeney; his five grandsons, Joel Sweeney (Buffie), Jake Sweeney (Cortney), Ben Curran (Sarah), Seth Curran and Noah Curran; his two great-granddaughters, Georgia Sweeney and Riley Sweeney; and his great-grandson, Jamison Curran.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents and his twin sister, Lois Anderson.

CURRAN — The friends of Lewis M. “Bud” Curran, who died Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Buechele Funeral Home, 707 Kellys Way, East Brady.A parish prayer service will be at 3:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Eusebius Roman Catholic Church, East Brady, with the Rev. William Kuba and the Rev. Monty Sayers concelebrating.Committal, military honors and burial will follow in St. Eusebius Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, the Curran Family suggest memorials be made in Bud's name to the East Brady Ambulance, P.O.
