Great Dane puppies among 20 animals seized Monday from Muddy Creek Township home
Two Great Danes and a litter of puppies were among 20 animals found by state police in “uninhabitable” conditions at a Muddy Creek Township home Monday morning, March 25.
The animals are in “rough” condition, according to Ruth Thompson, director of the A.N.N.A Shelter in Erie County.
The shelter will become the temporary home to the dogs, cat, four ducks and six chickens that were seized by police from the residence on Pfeifer Road.
The adult Great Danes weigh about 100 pounds each, with the Great Dane puppies weighing around 50 pounds, she said. There were obvious signs of litter mate syndrome among the pack, which Thompson explained can show itself in aggression between the sibling dogs.
“Dogs by nature shouldn’t be together that long, especially in that sort of environment,” she said. “They’re doing fantastic with a couple hours in a clean environment.”
Thompson said once the animals are looked over by the two shelter veterinarians, they will be put up for adoption by the weekend.
Police served the search warrant at the Muddy Creek Township home around 9 a.m. Monday, and their investigation is ongoing, according to documents.
