Car donation revs up vocational-technical programs

BUTLER TWP — The Butler County Area Vocational-Technical School received a donation for its vehicle work programs that the school’s executive director Regina Hiler said she assumed was a scam when she first received the email.

The school received a 2024 Ford Mustang from Ford Motor Company, which was presented by Baierl Ford at Thursday’s meeting of the school’s joint operating committee. Hiler said students in the auto tech program will get first crack at practicing mechanical work on it, and auto body students may also get to do some exterior work on it.

She said the car is planned to be available for students to practice on for years.

Budget result

The joint operating committee also heard the results of the 2024-25 budget vote, in which every school board member of the six Butler County school districts submits a vote. The individual school board members voted almost unanimously to pass the budget, which has operating expenses totaling $6.7 million. The budget is funded by the six Butler County school districts that send students to the school, and has to be passed by each school board and then each individual board member.

Fifty-six board members voted for the budget, one person voted no, one person abstained, two votes were not recorded and three ballots were not received, according to the school’s count Thursday.
