From 2021 to 2022, Butler County visitor spending increased by $93 million, according to the Butler County Tourism & Convention Bureau, to a total of $600 million.

About $170 million was spent on transportation alone, with $138 million on food and beverages, the bureau announced, citing the latest information released in the Economic Impact of Pennsylvania’s Travel and Tourism report.

“We are proud to see the county continue to contribute to our local economy in such an impactful way,” said Jack Cohen, president of the Butler County Convention & Tourism Bureau. “These numbers represent how vital the tourism industry is.”

Recreation was the third highest category at $114 million, while retail spending came in at $109 million, followed by $68 million on lodging.

The latest report also stated the average overnight business traveler spent $406 per trip.

Across Pennsylvania, visitor spending reached $45.4 billion in 2022, a nearly 20% increase from 2021.
