St. Mary students awarded gold in history competition
HERMAN - Students from St. Mary of the Assumption School were honored with a gold medal for best entry at a National History Day competition June 13 to 17 in Washington, D.C.
Ten students from the school competed in three categories. It was the first time the students had made it to the national history day contest.
Participants in the contest had to make history come alive through an exhibit, documentary, paper or performance.
The St. Mary students who competed are: eighth graders Theresa Schultz, Adria Streitman, Dustin Bunta and Bradley Marra; and seventh grader Russell Bauer.
More than 70,000 students from across the United States competed in the event, with 2,000 of them from Pennsylvania.
