Fred Holmes Jr.

Fred W. Holmes Jr., of Butler, passed away on his 95th birthday, Wednesday, April 17, 2024, under the care of Chicora Medical Center.

Born April 17, 1929, in Midway, Pa., he was the son of the late Fred W. Holmes Sr. and the late Grace (Blair) Holmes.

Fred was a graduate of Hickory High School, and went on to work as a meat cutter for various firms throughout Western Pennsylvania. He was active with the Boy Scouts of America throughout his life. Fred liked to spend time outdoors, especially hunting and camping. He also enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles. More than anything, Fred will be remembered as a hardworking family man who loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine T. (Kler) Holmes, whom he married on Nov. 23, 1950; his daughter, Deborah (John) Neigh of Butler; his son, Rodney (Sandra) Holmes of Washington County; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and his stepbrother, Gordon Holmes.

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

HOLMES — A blessing service for Fred W. Holmes Jr., who died Wednesday, April 17, 2024, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler, with Father Matthew McClain of St. Clare of Assisi Parish, St. Wendelin Catholic Church, officiating. Visitation will immediately follow the blessing service until 3 p.m.

He will be laid to rest privately in St. Wendelin Cemetery.
