SRU baseball, softball earn home twin bill sweeps

Koby Bubash, Joey Purcell, and Brandon Butler had hits in each of the Slippery Rock University baseball team’s twin bill wins over visiting Gannon on Saturday.

Bubash extended his hitting streak to 14 games as the Rock downed the visitors by scores of 5-2 and 17-1. Gage Gillott struck out seven batters and earned his sixth victory of the season in the first game before going 3-for-4 with four runs, four RBIs, and a walk in the second.

SRU is now 22-11 overall with a 12-6 mark in the PSAC West.

Softball

By a combined 18-1 score, the Slippery Rock University softball team swept Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday. On Senior Day, the Rock improved to 20-22 overall and 13-10 within the PSAC West.

Emma Kennedy, Julia Montie, Julia Nutter, and Aubrey Mansfield each had a home run during the twin bill. SRU won the latter game, 9-1, in six innings and the former, 9-0, in five frames.

Seniors Kelsi Anderson and Mackenzie Freeman were honored in a pre-game ceremony.
