Fire destroys Center Township house
CENTER TWP — No people were harmed in a fire at 615 Sunset Drive on Wednesday afternoon, April 24, but some dogs and cats that lived in the house were possibly killed, according to firefighters.
Mike Pflugh, chief of Unionville Volunteer Fire Company, said the cause of the fire, which left the house a total loss, is still undetermined, but the fire marshal was set to visit Thursday.
Pflugh said that when firefighters arrived shortly after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, they found the fire consuming the first floor of the two-story home.
“When we got here there was mainly a fire on the east side … mostly the first floor,” Pflugh said. “There is no gas on here.”
The portion of the street near the house was completely blocked by almost a dozen fire trucks, and traffic had to be detoured.
Firefighters began to clear the scene at around 5:25 p.m.
Nine other fire departments responded to the fire aside from Unionville, and Butler Ambulance Service also was called to the scene.
Pflugh said the residents of the house have somewhere to stay and did not need the Red Cross to aid them following the fire.
