Marian O. Barnes

Marian O. Barnes, 93, of Harrisville died at 7 a.m. Saturday at UPMC in Pittsburgh, where she was a patient for one day.

Born July 5, 1911, in Harrisville, she was the daughter of Perry W. and Alice B. Moon Orr.

She was a 1929 graduate of Harrisville High School and a 1933 graduate of Grove City College.

She was an elementary school teacher, first at Wood School in Marion Township and then at Harrisville Elementary. She retired from Victory Elementary in Venango County. She taught for 29 years.

She was a member of the Harrisville United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for 66 years. She held various offices in the United Methodist Women's Group and was a member of the Harrisville Community Club, the Women's Christian Temperance Union, the Retired Teachers Association and the Pennsylvania State Education Association.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Gerald L. (Carol A.) Amon of Mercer, and Kathryn M. Barnes of Harrisville; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Barnes, whom she married on April 11, 1945, and who died on Jan. 5, 1993; a sister, and three brothers.

BARNES - Friends of Marian O. Barnes, who died Saturday, March 5, 2005, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at JAMISON FUNERAL HOME, 117 N. Main St., Harrisville. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Harrisville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeffrey St. Clair of the church officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Cemetery, Harrisville.Memorial contributions may be made to the Harrisville United Methodist Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 424, Harrisville, PA 16038.
