Paul R. Miller

Paul R. Miller, 84, formerly of Bairdstown, Westmoreland County, died Tuesday at the Masonic Village at Elizabethtown, Lancaster County.

Born May 18, 1922, in Bairdstown, he was a son of Harry E. and Anna R. Murray Miller.

He retired in 1980 after 38 years as a Pennsylvania game protector and was a graduate of the Ross-Leffler School of Conservation, Brockway.

During World War II, he was a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment. He parachuted into Normandy on D-Day and into Holland with the Allied airborne. He was one of the paratroopers surrounded in the Bastone during the Battle of the Bulge and received numerous decorations, including the Purple Heart and Three Bronze Stars.

Mr. Miller was a life member of the VFW Post 1599 of Chambersburg. He also belonged to the Fraternal Order of Police of Lewistown and the George Washington F&AM Lodge of Chambersburg.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Frances V. Fogle Miller, of Elizabethtown; a son, Joseph V. Miller of Philadelphia; three daughters, Bonnie J. Gabler and Julie E. Tarquino, both of Chambersburg, and Mary Ann Kimmen of Greenwood; nine grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

A daughter preceded him in death.

<B>MILLER </B>— Friends of Paul R. Miller, who died Tuesday, May 23, 2006, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the <B>Jon C. Russin Funeral Home</B>, 618 Martin St., Bellwood. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ken Cretz officiating. Entombment, with military honors, will be at Calvary Cemetery mausoleum, Altoona.A Masonic service will be held at 6:45 p.m. today at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gullain Barre Foundation, P.O. Box 262, Wynnwood, PA 19086.
