SLIPPERY ROCK — Monday's Slippery Rock School Board meeting was the last for Dennis Thompson.

He gave a letter of retirement to board President Michael Scheer, who in turn presented Thompson with a gift certificate and platter from Wendell August Forge on behalf of the board as a thank you for more than 20 years of service.

Scheer praised Thompson as an advocate. “You have always been a voice for the disadvantaged students,” Scheer said.

Superintendent Kathy Nogay said Thompson always was helpful to administrators and fellow board members.

“Mr. Thompson, we are going to miss you greatly,” Nogay said. “You've been a consistently positive board member.”

Thompson, 66, first was appointed to the board in 1987, and was elected to two terms in 1988 and 1991. He did not run in 1995. He ran again in 1999 and has had three terms since then.
