Kathleen “Katie” Keck Smeltzer

Kathleen “Katie” Keck Smeltzer, 86, of Melbourne, Fla., and formerly of Butler, died June 7.

Born Aug. 3, 1929, in Butler, she was the daughter of Margie and Fred Keck of Butler.

She graduated from Butler High School and attended Allegheny College.

She married Robert Hester Smeltzer on Dec. 27, 1949. They lived after marriage in Butler and moved to Indialantic, Fla., in 1977.

Katie participated in volunteer organizations, especially Volunteers in Motion.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her oldest sister, Mary Hooks, both in 1987.

She is survived by her sisters, Polly Knight of Indialantic, Fla., and Jean Miller and her husband, Bill Miller Sr., of Middlebury, Vt.; longtime close friend, Gilles Geoffroy of Quebec, Canada; her cousins, Ruth Clark of Indialantic, Fla. and Martha McCrory of Baton Rouge, La.; niece, Margie Granat, and nephews, Fred and Tom Knight, Vernon Hooks and Bill Miller Jr.

SMELTZER — In lieu of flowers, memorial donations, in the name of Kathleen “Katie” Keck Smeltzer, who died Tuesday, June 7, 2016, may be sent to the Humane Society of Brevard County, Florida, or Cancer Society of Brevard County, Florida.
