George M. Claypoole

George M. Claypoole, 93, of Meridian died Friday morning at the home of his daughter in Zelienople.

Born April 12, 1917, in Chicora, he was a son of the late Lawrence F. and Marybelle (Wolfe) Claypoole.

He was retired from the Pullman Standard Car Co., where he was an electrician and crane man for 21 years. He retired in 1979.

George was a member of St. Anthony Antiochian Orthodox Church in Butler and the Meridian veterans club, and he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A veteran of World War II, he served with the United States Army.

Surviving are one son, Ed Claypoole of Uniontown; a daughter, Georgia Ging and her husband Don, of Zelienople; two grandchildren, Angela Dawson and her husband, Bill, of Harmony, and Erich Orris of Rapid City, S.D.; three great-grandchildren, Eli, Caleb, and Charlee Dawson; sisters-in-law, Virginia Betres of West Virginia, Tootie Betres of Butler, Alice Sita of Chicora, and Jean Claypoole of New York; a brother-in-law, Howard Barger of Chicora; numerous nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann M. (Betres) Claypoole, who he married July 17, 1947. She died Feb. 24, 1999, and was the last surviving member of his immediate family as he was also preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

<B>Claypoole — </B>Friends of George M. Claypoole, who died Friday, June 18, 2010, will be received at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham Street, Butler, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony Antiochian Orthodox Church, Pillow Street, Butler. The Rev. Gregory Long, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.Trisagion prayer services will be at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.Military honors will be performed at the cemetery by the American Legion/VFW honor squad.
