Several departments involved in Tuesday search for Slippery Rock Elementary students
The Slippery Rock area community was involved in the search Tuesday, May 7, for two students of Slippery Rock Area Elementary School, including state police, Slippery Rock police, Slippery Rock University police and the Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company.
Alfonso Angelucci, superintendent of Slippery Rock Area School District, said Tuesday the school reported two students missing after possibly leaving the recess area in the afternoon. According to Angelucci, the students were missing for about an hour-and-a-half before they were located and returned safely to their parents.
Joshua Drake, a Slippery Rock police officer, said the department received a call about the missing students at 2:09 p.m. Tuesday, and the officers immediately began a search for the students.
Trooper Bertha Cazy, public information officer for Troop D, said state police were contacted to assist with the search about 2:25 p.m.
Cazy said state police issue a “BOLO,” or be on the lookout, using the information they have on the missing person or people.
“Generally when we get a report of a missing juvenile, we get a description of what they were last seen wearing and the direction they are believed to be traveling,” Cazy said. “We also get in contact with parent or guardians to see if they have any ideas where the juvenile would be heading and to see if they can get in contact with them on their phones or other devices.”
Cazy said a juvenile not found in a timely manner would be entered into the national system as a missing youth, and other police departments would get a description and photo, if available.
