Charles M. Durso

Charles M. Durso

Charles M. Durso, 74, of Butler passed away Wednesday at his home.

Born Feb. 27, 1943, in Louisville, Ky., he was the son of the late John Durso and Minerva (Boyd) Durso.

Chas was raised on Ward Street in Oakland, in Pittsburgh, where he met and married his teenage sweetheart, Grace (Cozzo) Durso.

Charlie brought a smile to the face of everyone he met. His liveliness and humor defined him.

He loved his 32-year career as a Teamster truck driver. He retired from ABF Freight.

Charlie met many people through his love of horses. He loved golfing, woodworking, watching Steelers football, eating cheeseburgers and drinking coffee.

Charlie was a U.S. Army veteran who had a way of telling a story — so many stories — that will be kept alive forever in all who knew him. His daughter, Jennifer, embodies so much of her Dad's spirit and enthusiasm for life. She was his pride and joy.

The staff who cared for him at UPMC Passavant will well remember Charlie as a kind and cheer-filled patient to the end.

Of his 49-year marriage to Grace, he is survived by her and their daughter, Jennifer (Zeitler); and his granddaughter, Chiara, “the greatest gift of my life.”

He also is survived by a sister, Rosemarie Gombash of Virginia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patsy Borelli.
