James R. Slaughenhoupt
James R. Slaughenhoupt, 77, of Bruin passed away Thursday at his home.
He was born Sept. 11, 1933, in Perry Township, Clarion County, the son of Lee and Mildred (Brothers) Slaughenhoupt.
Jim lived in the area all his life, and he honorably served his country in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War.
He was a truck driver for Penreco until his retirement in 1996.
His memberships included the American Legion Post 488 in Bradys Bend, the VFW in Emporium and the Allegheny Clarion Sportsmen's Club.
Jim was a hard-working man who loved the outdoors. For many years, he helped farm the Shakely farm, and he never missed a deer season. Jim also enjoyed watching Pittsburgh Steelers football.
Jim had a tendency to be direct and to the point; you never had to guess what he was thinking because he would be more than willing to share it with you.
The time most precious to Jim was that spent with his grandson and his three great-grandsons. They added much joy to his life, and his entire family will never forget how much he loved them.
He will be deeply missed by his grandsons, Mike Slaughenhoupt and his wife, Stacey, of East Brady and Karl Slaughenhoupt and his wife, Rayna, of Butler; his stepdaughter, Elaine Chadwell and her husband, Jack, of Bruin; three great-grandsons; and a sister, Louise Morrison of Parker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn (Johns) Slaughenhoupt, who passed away Sept. 2, 1990; a son, Garry Slaughenhoupt; a great-granddaughter, Lindsay Slaughenhoupt; brothers, Will, Art and Harold Slaughenhoupt; and a sister, June Westbrook.
