Seven Fields council ready for renovated pool
SEVEN FIELDS — With summer just weeks away, borough council approved several measures in anticipation of the upcoming swimming season.
On Monday, May 13, council voted unanimously to approve several items pertaining to Seven Fields Town Park Pool, including upgrading the electric equipment and hiring an assistant manager.
Borough engineer John Balewski said he hopes the pool, at 390 Castle Creek Drive, will be ready before the anticipated date of June 10.
“We’re hoping to get it done earlier than that,” Balewski said. “June 10 is late.”
The pool is undergoing its third and final phase of improvements the borough has conducted since it started making renovations three years ago, borough manager Tom Smith said.
Last week Shiloh Industrial Contractors started upgrading the pool deck, added new concrete, installed a new filtration system and painted the tile lining the pool.
The new electrical work is a result of pouring the concrete, as contractors were required to move electrical conduits for the pool lights during the pouring process, Smith said.
Council approved the electrical work for the pool at a cost of $3,350.
The funding for renovations was made available to the borough by the Pennsylvania Department of Community Economic Development’s $250,000 Local Share Account Grant, which distributes gaming revenues collected through the Commonwealth Financing Authority to support projects in the public interest.
Council also hired of Danielle Wike as assistant pool manager. Wike, a certified lifeguard, will be responsible for aiding the pool’s supervisor as well as maintaining a safe atmosphere for attendees.
Her hourly rate of pay will be $17, according to Smith.
North Regional Police Sgt. Andy Bienemann gave a report on the department’s activity throughout the borough for April.
Bienemann said the department handled 39 service calls, conducted 30 traffic stops that resulted in a citations or warning, deployed its canine unit for a juvenile runaway and conducted four commercial vehicle inspections.
