Customs seizes $80,000 of counterfeit Roku remotes headed to Butler County

About $80,000 worth of counterfeit Roku remotes heading for a Butler County address were seized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Pittsburgh on Sunday.

About $80,000 worth of counterfeit Roku remotes heading for a Butler County address were seized Sunday by U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Pittsburgh.

According to the agency, 1,600 remotes featuring the Roku trademark arrived April 13 from China and were heading to the county. With a manufacturer-suggested retail price of $50, those 1,600 remotes would have sold for $80,000 if authentic, the agency said.

A Customs and Border Protection spokesman said he couldn't say where in Butler County the remotes were heading, nor could he confirm if it was to a commercial address.

The remotes were seized as part of the customs agency's Intellectual Property Rights enforcement program, which monitors for the importation of counterfeit merchandise.
