Teen dies after being hit by vehicle
SALEM TWP, Mercer County — An 18-year-old man was struck and killed by a pickup truck Sunday night when he got out of his car after hitting a deer on Greenville Sheakleysville Road, state police said.
Zachery R. Shook of Sheakleysville was pronounced dead at the scene of the 9:20 p.m. crash.
The teen had been traveling east on the road, less than one-half mile east of Methodist Road, when his car struck a deer. Police said Shook parked his vehicle in the middle of the road, partially blocking the westbound lane.
Shook got out of his car and was struck by a westbound 2002 Dodge Dakota driven by Wayne Rump, no age given, of Greenville.
Police said a 2000 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer, driven by Betty Boca, that was traveling behind the pickup, also was damaged in the crash.
No charges have been filed in the crash that remains under investigation.
