Police: Renfrew man brings gun to Pittsburgh airport
A Renfrew man was found with a gun at the main security checkpoint in Pittsburgh National Airport on Tuesday afternoon, May 21, according to Allegheny County Police.
Police said Scott Playford, 45, faces a misdemeanor charge of carrying a firearm without a license. Playford is a Canadian citizen living legally in the United States, police said.
According to a Facebook post from the department, Transportation Security Administration officers noticed the gun in Playford’s backpack at the security check point around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and alerted police.
Police said Playford does not have a conceal carry permit. The firearm was seized and the Federal Bureau of Investigation was also notified of the incident, according to the post.
Passengers who bring firearms into an airport security checkpoint can face federal civil fines up to $10,000, police said, and repeat offenders can be fined up to $13,910.
