Robert William Wissinger, 68, of Barboursville, Va., died Tuesday at his home following a brief courageous battle with cancer.

He was born Aug. 8, 1943, in Sarver and was the son of the late Lee William Wissinger and Della Simmers Wissinger.

Mr. Wissinger was a retired U.S. Navy veteran with 28 years of active duty. During that time he was a member of Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron “Blue Angels” and served in the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Elizabeth Wissinger of Barboursville; three daughters, Tina A. McNeal and her husband, Mike, of Meridan, Miss., Tammie L. Lyles and her husband, David of Camden, S.C., and Kimberly N. Wissinger of Hayesville, N.C.; three sons, Robert Todd Wissinger and his wife, Jennifer, of Greenville, S.C., Timothy W. Wissinger and his wife, Jennifer, of Burke, Va., and Corey R. Wissinger of Charlottesville, Va.; four brothers, Gary E. Wissinger of Sarver, Kenneth H. Wissinger and his wife, Sharon, of Saxonburg and Ronald H. Wissinger, Richard A. Wissinger and his wife, Dawn, all of Butler; three sisters, Judy Roudybusch and her husband, Fran, Joyce A. Sasse and her husband, Russell and Linda J. Coward and her husband, Gerald, all of Sarver; eight grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

<B>WISSINGER </B>— Funeral services for Robert William Wissinger, who died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the <B>Preddy Funeral Home Chapel</B>, 59 Edgewood School Lane, Madison, Va., conducted by the Rev. Richard Thurston. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Interment will be in Culpeper National Cemetery in Virginia with military honors.Memorial contributions may be made to support.woundedwarriorproject.org.
