Bogan 100th birthday
Dennis “Jim” Bogan, of Penn Township, is celebrating his 100th birthday on Sunday at a private party with family and friends.
Bogan was born on June 9, 1924, in Renfrew.
He married Nancy McElhinney on Dec. 16, 1952, at St. Matthias Roman Catholic Church in Evans City. She is deceased.
Bogan has eight children, Dennis Bogan, Brian Bogan and Julie Bogan McNamara, all of Penn Township; Eric Bogan of Jefferson Township; Beverly Bogan Park of Shaler Township, Allegheny County; Harry Bogan of Johnstown; and Thomas Bogan of Albuquerque, N.M. A son, Mark Bogan, is deceased.
He also has 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Bogan, who is a retired bricklayer and mason, graduated from Mars High School in 1942.
He served as a radio operator 2nd class in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He participated in three major battles in the Pacific Theater during the war.
Bogan is a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 249 in Butler, American Legion Post 778 in Butler Township, and the Penn Township Veterans Association.
He belongs to Holy Sepulcher Roman Catholic Church in Middlesex Township.
