Butler Eagle general manager honored in E&P’s ‘15 over 50’

Tammy Schuey

Butler Eagle general manager Tammy Schuey was recently included in Editor and Publisher’s “15 over 50” Class of 2024.

This year’s 22 honorees range from age 50 to 80, and represent traditional legacy media, digital new media, broadcast and public media organizations of all sizes across the United States.

Schuey was recognized for her leadership skills, transformational mindset and commitment to journalistic and publishing excellence. In a nomination letter, Schuey was described as “the key player in maintaining our role in the printing industry and keeping journalism alive and well in Western Pennsylvania.”

“(Schuey’s) talents were without limitation and she moved throughout departments over the past 30 plus years, upgrading systems, but also hiring, training and promoting employees across all departments,” the letter read.

Schuey started her career in the industry with the Butler Eagle more than 30 years ago when she was hired to train the company’s composition room on the then new Macintosh computer technology.

“As I look back on my career starting as an IT professional, I never imagined I would be leading a news organization,” Schuey said. “However, I take great pride in the fact that I always continued learning and adapting to meet the needs of our organization.”

In her current role, Schuey is focused on the future of publishing local news.

“As news deserts have appeared and AI has emerged, more and more people are looking to local newspapers as the trusted source of information they appreciate, depend upon and want to support,” Schuey said.
