SUMMIT TWP — One motorist is dead following a collision between a car and a motorcycle Sunday afternoon, June 16, at the intersection of Route 422 and Geibel Road.

The incident was first reported at 1:20 p.m. When authorities arrived, they found the motorcycle on top of the other vehicle.

According to scanner reports, another person was injured in the accident and was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Kittanning.

It is unknown how many passengers were in the car or on the motorcycle or if any others were injured. As of Sunday afternoon, the circumstances of the collision remain unclear.

State troopers responded to the scene, along with the Herman Volunteer Fire Company and the East Butler Ambulance Service. As a result of the accident, the Herman VFC blocked all eastbound traffic on Route 422 at the Bonniebrook Road intersection, forcing a detour onto Heist Road.

The Geibel Road bridge, which crosses Bonniebrook, also was cordoned off.

Chief Rob Shuler of the Herman Volunteer Fire Company said he was unable to make any comment on the accident, as state police are investigating. A representative of the state police said a news release is forthcoming.
