SUMMIT TWP — A New York man died in a collision between a car and a motorcycle Sunday afternoon, June 16, at the intersection of Route 422 and Geibel Road, according to state police.

Ryan J. Murphy, 26, of Niagara Falls, was traveling east on Route 422 when Joanne L. Klein, of Butler, driving a Ford Fusion traveling west on Route 422, began a left turn onto Geibel Road in front of Murphy’s Suzuki, according to a state police report.

Murphy, who was wearing a helmet, crashed into the sedan. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident was first reported at 1:20 p.m. When authorities arrived, they found the motorcycle on top of the sedan.

Klein was injured in the crash and was taken by an East Butler Volunteer Fire Department ambulance to a hospital in Kittanning with suspected minor injuries.

State troopers responded to the scene, along with the Herman Volunteer Fire Company and the East Butler Ambulance Service. The Herman VFC blocked all eastbound traffic on Route 422 at the Bonniebrook Road intersection, forcing a detour onto Heist Road.

The Geibel Road bridge, which crosses Bonniebrook, also was cordoned off.

Traffic around the scene was limited until 5:30 p.m. as a collision and reconstruction team investigated.
