Joyce A. Salak
Joyce A. Salak, 89, of Butler died Wednesday afternoon at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.
She was a native of Saltash, Cornwall, England, where she was born Aug. 2, 1921, a daughter of the late William and Ada Welch Kempthorne.
During World War II, Joyce had volunteered as an ambulance driver in her hometown area with the Civil Defense Service.
Joyce was very devoted to her family and especially enjoyed spending her time with them. She also enjoyed her flower garden and watching the animals that came to her yard.
She was a member of St. Peter's Anglican Church in Butler.
She was the widow of Andrew Salak. They married July 23, 1947, and he died May 17, 2006. She also was preceded in death by a son, Andrew John Salak; one brother, Albert Kempthorne; and a sister, May Luke.
Surviving are four children, Stephen Salak and his wife Tracy, of Anderson, S.C., Joyce Salak of Frederick, Md., Ann Gaal of McDonald and Karen Salak of Gaithersburg, Md.; and a grandson, Benjamin Salak
<B>SALAK </B>— Friends of Joyce A. Salak, who died Wednesday, June 15, 2011, will be received at <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Her pastors, the Rev. Andrew DeFusco, the Rev. Bruce Geary, and the Rev. Karen Geary, will officiate.
