A storm blew through Butler County on June 18, 1970, causing extensive damage throughout the northern part of the county, especially in the Chicora area.

High-velocity winds and pea-sized hail befell Chicora that afternoon, causing residents to flee into their basements after hearing weather alerts warning of the potential wreckage.

The storm knocked over trees in Butler as well, with West Brady Street blocked by a tree near its intersection with Broad Street. The city’s streets department was out until 10 p.m. removing the tree, as well as others that fell within Butler limits.
