Classic cruiser cars coming to town
The streets of Butler will host more than a thousand vehicles Sunday, June 23, but this time, there will be more variety compared to the Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival, which took the streets June 7.
This Sunday is the 29th Cruise-A-Palooza hosted by the Rodfathers of Butler, which is not only a fun event for car enthusiasts and locals alike, but also an annual fundraiser for a charity of the Rodfathers’ choosing.
Dan Cunningham, publicity director for the Rodfathers of Butler, said there were about 1,600 customized vehicles at the event last year, and the day typically brings at least 1,000 vehicles to Main Street and its adjoining streets. According to Cunningham, the vehicles on display are just one part of the event, because there will be live music, food, basket raffles and auctions.
“We go all out to make it as convenient and interesting as possible,” Cunningham said. “We're looking forward to having good weather Sunday.”
Cruise-A-Palooza takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Main Street, where people will show off their vehicles, some of which date back decades and others more recent automobiles. Cunningham said the Rodfathers have already been contacted by people from around Pennsylvania and other states who plan to attend the event.
The Cruise-A-Palooza generates money through vendor sales and T-shirt sales, plus the raffles and auctions that take place on cruise day. The Rodfathers will choose a charity to donate money to later in the year, Cunningham said.
Although it will be a busy day for Cunningham and the rest of the Rodfathers, Cunningham said the people who attend the event, both to show off and see vehicles, usually have a good time.
“Ninety percent are old cruise cars that have been reconditioned for modern day,” Cunningham said. “Most of (the attendees) own one, two at the most, and they take a lot of care of them.”
