Update: Missing Winfield Township man found alive Friday

Search & Rescue finish up their search for David Henschel after he was found around 9:04 a.m. on Friday, June 21. Morgan Phillips/Butler Eagle 6/21/2024

A Winfield Township man who went missing earlier this week was found “alive and coherent” Friday morning, June 21, according to state police.

State police and emergency personnel were searching for David Henschel, 74, in the area of North Pike Road near Thiele Farm.

Henschel was found at 9:04 a.m. Friday in the search area, according to Trooper Bertha Cazy, public information officer with Troop D.

“He was found by our search crews out there just in the woods, on foot,” she said.

She added that Henschel’s family is “relieved” that he’s been found.

“We were just happy we were able to find him and be able to get him the treatment that he needs,” she said.

Henschel was taken by a brush truck from the woods to a Saxonburg EMS ambulance, which was called to Thiele Lane shortly after he was found.

Henschel had been declared missing early Thursday after he was last seen in the area of Henschel Acres Lane in Winfield Township at about 12:04 a.m. Wednesday.

Cazy said Henschel’s vehicle, a dark green Mercedes SUV, was located near the dairy farm in the 700 block of North Pike Road around 11:30 p.m. Thursday night.

Four search parties, K9 units and state police aviation units aided in the search for Henschel, according to Cazy.

Since Henschel has been found, Cazy said search crews have began clearing the scene.

She added that the excessive heat did not cause complications for the search teams.

“We came with plenty of water; I don’t think we’ve had any issues,” she said.
