Sara Elizabeth 'Hon' (Cypher) Kriley

Sara Elizabeth “Hon” (Cypher) Kriley, 100, of Jefferson Township died Thursday evening at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born on Aug. 26, 1913, in Winfield Township, she was a daughter of the late William M. Cypher and Sadie (Boyd) Cypher.

She was a member of the St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Herman, where she was also a member of the Christian Mothers and helped for many years at the church picnics and fish fries, slicing the homemade bread for thousands of people. She was an excellent seamstress, making suits and wedding gowns for her family and friends.

Surviving are her three sons, A. Robert (Cassandra) Kriley, David (Charlotte) Kriley and Donald (Karen) Kriley; her stepdaughter, Gail L. (Joe) Lightner; her 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, August P. “Gust” Kriley, who she married on April 16, 1944, at the St. John Roman Catholic Church in Fenelton, and he died Sept. 26, 2002; her five brothers, John, William, Joseph, Albert and Luke Cypher; her stepdaughter, Bonita Mae Crotzer; and her grandson, M. Eugene Sherbaum.

KRILEY — The friends of Sara Elizabeth “Hon” (Cypher) Kriley, who died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Herman. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery.
