Doris W. McCandless, 83, of Mars died Saturday morning at LAS St. John Specialty Care Center in Mars.

Born Dec. 13, 1925, in Mars, she was the daughter of Grant L. and Frances Thieleman Forsythe, and her stepmother, Clara Renison Forsythe.

She was the food service manager at the Mars Middle School and belonged to the School Food Service Worker's Association.

Doris was a life member of the Mars United Presbyterian Church. She also belonged to the Mars American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and had been a Cub Scout Den Mother.

Surviving are a daughter, Amy Werner and her husband, Larry, of Mars; three sons, Dennis H. McCandless of Gibsonia, Guy L. McCandless and his wife, Teri, of West Chester and Alan R. McCandless of Madison, Ala. She was the grandmother of Katie Niklewicz and her husband, Todd, and Grant Werner, all of Mars, Edward McCandless of Wentzville, Mo., and Kristy Schwiesow and her husband, Brandon, of Madison, Ala. She also is survived by a half-brother, Charles G. Forsythe and his wife, Rosemary, of Perkiomenville, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold L. "Peanuts" McCandless, who she married April 16, 1948, and who died Feb. 22, 2007; a grandson, Charles Grant Werner; and a brother, Earl L. Forsythe.

<B>MCCANDLESS</B> — Friends of Doris W. McCandless, who died Saturday, May 23, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the <B>McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home</B>, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars.Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Mars United Presbyterian Church, 232 Crowe Ave., Mars, with the Rev. Nathan Esser, pastor, officiating.
