James M. “Jim” Lawther, 59, of Middlesex Township, Valencia, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning, June 23, 2024, in the comfort of his home.

Born in McCandless Township, Pa., on July 31, 1964, he was the son of Evelyn Lawther Cotto and the late Anthony Cotto.

Jim had been a postal clerk for the Gibsonia Post Office.

He was an avid Harley Davidson rider. He loved playing disc golf, hiking, swimming and spending time with family and especially with his grandkids.

Surviving are his wife, his high school sweetheart, Sharon A. Murphy Lawther, whom he was with for 41 years and married to for 36 years, since Oct. 8, 1988; two sons, Kevin R. Lawther (fiancée, Hope Guardalabene) of Jefferson Township and Kurtis J. Lawther of Zelienople; his grandchildren, Alaya, Autumn and Maxwell Lawther and Lea Caudill; his mother, Evelyn Cotto of Gibsonia; five sisters, Debbie Lerch (Marco), Robin Cosme (Felix), Lisa Cotto, all of Middlesex Township, Kim Mimm of Downieville and Shannon Cotto (fiancé, Dan) of Kittanning; and two brothers, David Cotto of Shaler Township and Charles “C.J.” Cotto of Downieville. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Daniel Cotto.

LAWTHER — A celebration of the life of James M. “Jim” Lawther, who died Sunday, June 23, 2024, is being planned.

Memorials in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association.
