Fire damages apartment in Zelienople

ZELIENOPLE — A fire caused heavy smoke damage to an apartment Sunday night.

Firefighters from Zelienople were called to 403 Market Street about 9:30 p.m. when residents of the apartment returned home to find smoke and fire in the living room, Chief Rob Reeb said. Their apartment is one of four in the unit.

Firefighters contained the fire to the apartment, but plastic items in the home melted and caused smoke damage. Reeb estimated the damage at $20,000.

Reeb said the cause of the fire was electrical.

The names of the residents and the building owner were not available this morning.

The residents of the apartment stayed with family and the residents of the other apartments were able to return to their homes.

No one was injured.
