The Clinton Township municipal building on Saxonburg Boulevard is currently closed as it undergoes a renovation project that will bring it more in line with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

According to township manager Ashley Kohley, the building renovation will bring much-needed improvements to ADA compliance, including the widening of office doors to accommodate wheelchairs as well as various upgrades to the bathrooms.

“It’s just going to be more ADA-compliant with updated bathrooms and office areas,” Kohley said. “They’re not really doing much in the conference room. It’s mostly a renovation for ADA compliance.”

The township first announced the temporary closure on its website in early June. According to meeting minutes posted on the township’s website, the project was awarded to Remodel Smart at a supervisors’ meeting on April 10.

The township first attempted to award a bid for the project in late March, but rejected all five bids offered at the agenda-setting meeting on March 25, as all five came in higher than the township had budgeted.

“We did take a project that was within our budget,” Kohley said.

During the renovation, township meetings will take place at the public works building, located behind the municipal building at the same address.

Kohley estimates that the municipal building will reopen by the end of July, as the contractors gave a timeline of six to eight weeks from the time the project began in early June.

“I would hope that they’re done by the end of July,” Kohley said. “That’s what they’re aiming for, but that doesn’t mean it will happen.”
