William “Bill” J. Alworth

William “Bill” J. Alworth, 93, of Parker, Pa., passed away Tuesday at the Parker Personal Care Home.

Born Feb. 2, 1923, in Eldorado, Pa., he was the son of the late James and Edith Alworth.

Bill proudly served his country as a staff sergeant with the 86th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army during World War II in the European and Asian-Pacific Theaters of Operation. He was also a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Butler Chapter 64.

He was married to his wife of 72 years, Lena Corso Alworth, on Oct. 7, 1944. She survives.

In his early years, Bill worked at Cooper Bessemer in Grove City. He began employment with the former Kopper's Chemical in Petrolia, from where he retired. He also was a self- employed TV and radio repairman in Parker for many years.

Bill was an avid amateur radio operator and enjoyed spending his days hunting and fishing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Dennis “Butch” (Bert) Alworth of Parker; six grandchildren, Nathan (Jen) Alworth of Virginia, Joe Brison of Emlenton, Melissa (Greg) Michael of West Virginia, Daniel (Jen) Brison of Butler, Timothy (Jessica) Brison of Parker and Amanda (Jeremy) Simon of West Virginia; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Betty Alworth Irwin; his brothers, George and David Alworth; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Alworth Brison.

ALWORTH — Friends of William “Bill” J. Alworth, who died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016, may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Parker United Methodist Church, 105 S.
