Richard J. Chmiel, 57, of Saxonburg went home to his Savior Saturday at his home after a long battle against cancer.

Born May 24, 1952, in McKees Rocks, he was the son of Edward J. and Peggy Sulzer Chmiel.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1972 to 1974.

He worked in the maintenance department of the U.S. Postal Service Bulk Mailing Center in Warrendale.

He was a member of the St. Luke Lutheran Church in Cabot. He loved his religion and music.

Richard belonged to the Pittsburgh Lutheran Chorus for many years, performing concerts at various churches. He enjoyed karaoke.

Surviving are his wife, Eleanore Allman Chmiel, who he married June 19, 1999; two sons, George (Tracy) Burd of Ambridge and Andrew (Andrea) Burd of Saxonburg; his daughter, Ashley Burd of Saxonburg; and five grandchildren, Nikolai, Kira, Cody, Tyler and Kierra.

Preceding him in death were his parents and an infant sister.

<B>CHMIEL</B> — Friends of Richard J. Chmiel, who died Saturday, March 20, 2010, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Fox Funeral Home</B>, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Luke Lutheran Church, Cabot, with Rev. Barry Keurulainen officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Luke Cemetery.Memorial donations may be made to the St. Luke Lutheran Church, 330 Hannahstown Road, Cabot, PA 16023, or to the VNA Hospice, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, PA 16002.Information also is available at www.foxfuneralhomeinc.com.
