Dorothy Ellen Patterson, 78, a 17-year resident of 500 Oak Hill Drive, Grove City, died at 2:50 p.m. Tuesday at Orchard Manor, Pine Township, Grove City, where she lived since Dec 29, 2008.

Born in Bellaire, Ohio, Sept. 5, 1930, she was a daughter of Clarence Leslie Littleton and Dorothy Agin Littleton.

She married the Rev. John D. "Jack" Patterson, Aug. 26, 1951.

She was the former executive secretary of Bridgeport Brass Co., Akron, Ohio; and a former secretary in Johnstown, Pa., for six years for the District of Western Pennsylvania United Methodist Church.

She was a member of Barkeyville United Methodist Church.

Dottie was active in the YMCA of Grove City and Indiana, Pa. She wrote a column for the Allied News newspaper, known as Dottie's Dashes. She was the author of two books, one titled "My Story" and the other titled "A Complication of Dottie's Dashes."

She was instrumental in building the chapel at Wesley Woods United Methodist Camp, and she created a chapel at First United Methodist Church, Union City, Pa.

She was a strong supporter in ministers' spouses organizations, and she was known for her practical jokes and stories. She had a pen pal in England for 67 years and had visited there three times.

Surviving are her husband, Jack, at home; four sons, the Rev. Doug Patterson and his wife, Ramona, of Baden, Dan Patterson and his wife, Yumi, of Lilburn, Ga., Dr. Don Patterson and his wife, Terri, of Kosciusko, Miss., and Dean Patterson and his wife, MaryAnn, of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.; 10 grandchildren, Brooke, Nathan, Hannah, Joey, Erina, Jonathan, Katie, Benjamin and Joseph Patterson and Rachelle Palmer; and two great-grandchildren, Emily and Brittany Patterson.

<B>PATTERSON</B> — Visitation for Dorothy Ellen Patterson, who died Tuesday, April 28, 2009, will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at <B>Cunningham Funeral Home</B>, Grove City. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church, South Broad Street, Grove City, with the Rev. John Jefferis, assisted by the Rev. Stephanie Thompson, the Rev. Paul Milliken and Mr. Larry Hauck. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery, Grove City.In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to the Dottie Patterson Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o United Methodist Foundation, 223 Fourth Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15222-1713.
