Jessie L. Asa
Jessie L. Asa, 82, of Mayfield Avenue died Friday at Chicora Medical Center.
Born Dec. 29, 1921, in California, Pa., she was a daughter of John and Bolomia Hallal Asa.
She was a graduate of California (Pa.) State University and had attended the University of Pittsburgh. After graduation from college, she was a teacher in Export and Ross Township.
Miss Asa was a licensed psychologist and devoted her life to special education in the Butler area. She was a member of the board of directors of the Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV for Special Education. In the 1970s, she was a supervisor of Clarence Brown Special School in Butler and was active in having the new school built. She later worked for the Butler School District and retired as supervisor of special education in 1984.
She was a former member of the board of directors of the Mental Health Association and Irene Stacy Community Mental Health Center.
She was a member of St. Anthony Antiochian Orthodox Church, where she belonged to the Women's Guild, and was a former member of the board of directors being involved in the building of the church. She also belonged to the Soroptimist Club.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Nancy Asa Dunkle of Butler, and numerous cousins.
A sister preceded her in death.
ASA - Friends of Jessie L. Asa, who died Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony Antiochian Orthodox Church with the Rev. Kevin Long officiating.
