Firefighting community remembers Corey Comperatore with lengthy procession

People line up outside the Morgan Phillips/Butler Eagle

Firefighters who attended the funeral for their fallen brother, Corey Comperatore, of the Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company, estimated that more than 150 emergency response vehicles turned out for the procession Friday morning, July 19, their attendance signifying a consistent message to the world that has just recently learned about Butler County: that the fire fighting community is like a family.

Comperatore died Saturday, July 13, at the rally for former President Donald Trump, where he shielded his wife and daughter from stray bullets.

Many firefighters present Friday did not know Comperatore personally, but it didn't matter.

"We're here to show support for Corey and the Comperatores," said Kris Bowser, assistant chief of Herman Volunteer Fire Company. "It just shows a comaraderie of the fire departments here. It's family."
