Cranberry student among 11 Pennsylvania winners of America’s Field Trip contest
As part of America250 — the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence coming up in 2026 — 11 students from Pennsylvania, and 150 nationwide, received prizes in the America’s Field Trip contest.
Among the winners was ninth-grader Leila Wright from Cranberry Township, who received a first-prize award for submitting an essay reflecting on what America means to her.
“America is a pile of strings telling the stories of those who came before and who will come later,” Leila wrote. “I refuse to let myself be destroyed by the past. Instead, I’m going to make a legacy that inspires and warrants glory for generations to come.”
As part of her prize, Leila and other first-prize winners will participate in a field trip to one of several national monuments, such as the Statue of Liberty, Yellowstone National Park or the National Archives.
