Three killed, one injured in single-car crash in Slippery Rock Township

Three people are dead and one other is seriously injured after a single-car accident which occurred just after midnight on Saturday morning, July 20 on State Route 65 in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County.

According to a news release from the Pennsylvania State Police’s New Castle barracks, the vehicle — a 2019 Nissan Armada — was traveling south on Route 65 when it crossed into the opposite lane. The vehicle then struck two utility poles and then struck a parked car in a driveway before going airborne and striking some trees before finally coming to rest.

The vehicle was carrying four occupants, including the driver. The driver and two of the passengers were pronounced dead at the scene, while the surviving occupant was flown by helicopter to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh for “advanced medical treatment.”

According to Charles Peak, chief of the Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Department, two of the occupants were ejected from the vehicle, while the other two were entrapped and needed to be extricated.

“We were on scene roughly nine minutes from the time we got the call,” Peak said. “There were two victims that were ejected from the vehicle and two trapped in the vehicle. We were able to get one young kid extricated in a timely manner and LifeFlighted to Pittsburgh.”

The Lawrence County Coroner’s Office has publicly identified the four occupants as members of the Bogacki family, all hailing from Portersville. The driver, 43-year-old Nathan, and passengers Emma, 17, and Grant, 13, were killed. The surviving passenger is 11-year-old Aubrey, who is listed on the release as in “severe” condition.

“From my understanding, the report that I got last evening stated that she’s still in critical but stable condition,” Peak said.

The Pennsylvania State Police said their investigation is “ongoing.” The Slippery Rock VFD, the Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Department, Shenango Volunteer Fire Department, Noga Ambulance Service, and the Lawrence County Coroner’s Office also assisted at the scene.
