Katherine Buchanan Cooper, 92, of Mars, died on Friday at LAS St. John Specialty Care Center in Mars.

Born in Forrestville on March 7, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Joseph W. and Edith A. Fisher Buchanan.

A homemaker, Katherine was a member of the Mars United Presbyterian Church for more than 70 years and had been a Deacon there. She also belonged to the Mars Chapter 271, Order of the Eastern Star.

Katherine also enjoyed quilt making.

She was the loving mother of Ruth Ann McCraley and David Harry and Larry LaVerne Cooper, all of Mars; mother-in-law of John McCraley and Geraldine and Jill Cooper; grandmother of Eric Allen Cooper of Mars, Lisa Marie Heffron and her husband, Patrick, of Scranton, Joseph McCraley and his wife, Sarah, of Ellwood City, and Divine Cooper and Logan Cooper, both of Mars; great-grandmother of Katie Heffron; sister of Mary Franklin of Ohio and Hazel Carr of New Kensington, and special friend of Eunice Guenther of Mars.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry LaVerne Cooper, whom she married on July 10, 1939, and who died on Aug. 18, 1996; and by two sisters, Winifred Sauers and Evelyn Eaton; and two brothers, Dallas and Francis Buchanan.

<B>COOPER </B> Friends of Katherine Buchanan Cooper, who died Friday, April 3, 2009, will be received from 12 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the <B>MCDONALD-AEBERLI FUNERAL HOME,</B> 238 Crowe Ave., Mars. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Mars United Presbyterian Church, 232 Crowe Ave., Mars, with the Rev. Nathan Esser, pastor, officiating. Please meet at the church. A luncheon will be held following the service in the church hall.
