Ford City man dies in Armstrong County crash

A Ford City man was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash after he was ejected when the car he was a passenger in struck an embankment early Wednesday in Armstrong County, according to police.

Brett A. Retzer, 29, of Ford City, was fatally injured when the car he was in left the road and hit an embankment, and Retzer was found outside the vehicle in Boggs Township, according to Armstrong County Coroner Brian K. Myers.

Retzer was in a 2002 Saturn SUV traveling on the River Road toward Templeton when the vehicle left the road and hit an embankment. Retzer was pronounced dead at the scene by Robert Bellas, chief deputy coroner. An autopsy will not be performed. Toxicology results will not be available for several weeks, according to Myers. The driver has not been identified.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation by state police in Kittanning and the coroner’s office, according to Myers. The Templeton-Pine Township, Rayburn Township and Kittanning Township volunteer fire departments and Kittanning No. 6 Emergency Medical Service also responded to the crash.

The Welch Funeral Home of Ford City is handling the funeral arrangements.
