Lavern J. "Vern" Paulsen, 80, of Saxonburg died Tuesday at Good Samaritan Hospice.

Born Jan. 29, 1929, in West Winfield, he was the son of A. Credo Paulsen and Elizabeth Bauer Paulsen.

He served in the U.S. Navy following World War II.

He had worked as a farm manager for Saxony Farms for more than 40 years.

He was a member of the Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church, a life member and former chief of the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company and a former board member of the Saxonburg Historical and Restoration Commission.

He enjoyed being on the chase crew for hot air balloons and gardening.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy Rearic Paulsen, who he married June 14, 1952; his daughters, Terry (Gerald) Jakovac of Butler and Cindy (Ronald) Henry of Albuquerque, N.M.; two brothers, Eugene (Virginia) Paulsen of Saxonburg and Larry (Carolyn) Paulsen of Butler; two sisters, Beverly "Bea" (Raymond) Gallagher of Butler and Carol (Albert) Vettori of Saxonburg; four grandchildren, Keirsten, Sarah, Russell and Daniel; and six great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, Royce, Bill and Leonard; and a sister, Harriet Lassinger.

<B>PAULSEN</B> — There will be no visitation. A memorial service for Lavern J. "Vern" Paulsen, who died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church (Little Church) with the Rev. David Brewer officiating.Memorial donations may be made to the Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church, P.O.
