William Smith Sr.
William E. Smith Sr., 91, formerly of Grove City, died of natural causses at 12:58 a.m. Thursday at Westminster Woods, Jacksonville, Fla. He had lived in Saint Johns, Fla., since 1999.
Born Sept. 14, 1919, in Cochranton, where he grew up on a farm, he was the son of Harry and Edna Elizabeth Smith.
He married Joan Gibson from Harrisville on April 4, 1948. She died Aug. 9, 2002.
Bill worked for Cooper Energy Service in Grove City and in Brazil. Following Cooper, he was employed by General Electric for 29 years and retired in Grove City in 1985.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
Bill loved his wife, his family, co-workers, golf and his pets. He was adept at fixing almost anything.
Surviving are two sons, Bill Smith and his wife, Barb, and Mark Smith and his wife, Rhonda, both of Saint Johns, Fla.; three grandchildren, Michael, Zachery and Stacey; two great-grandchildren, Nate and Zoie, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, one sister and two brothers.
<B>SMITH</B> — Funeral services for William E. Smith Sr., who died Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011, will be at the <B>Cunningham Funeral Home</B>, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City, at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Willard Morse, visitation pastor of the Grace United Methodist Church, officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Prairie Cemetery, Harrisville.
