Area teams taking it on the chin
I'm as excited as Gus Johnson calling an NFL game on CBS.
I can't stop screaming.
Oh, my gosh! I went 11-1 last week! Amazing! Oh, my gosh! Can you believe it! Ohhhhhh!
OK. I feel better now.
I went 11-1 to run my record to a dazzling 29-6.
Unfortunately, Butler County area teams are not faring as well.
Through three weeks, our gridders are 11-25. Only one team, Karns City, is undefeated. Six more are winless.
Here's hoping at least some of them can get off the shnide this week.
The always-calm Gus Johnson will be yelling for them.
On to the picks:
•
Canon-McMillan 26, Butler 13 — Don't blink or you will miss large chunks of this game. Both teams want to control the clock with a power running game. Get up for a quick bathroom break and you could miss a quarter. The Big Macs will do a better job of grinding it out.•
Seneca Valley 26, Knoch 10 — The Knights got a spark from a couple of sophomores last week in a near-upset win.The Raiders will be ready for them this week.•
Mars 24, Fox Chapel 20 — There's just something about the Planets, something the French call ... I don't know what.It amounts to another win, though.•
Moniteau 39, A-C Valley 11 — The Warriors are mad after a beatdown at the hands of Punxsutawney. The poor Falcons will find out what happens when a bunch of unhappy Warriors come to town.•
Karns City 32, Clarion-Limestone 12 — The once-mighty Lions have hit upon some tough times, but C-L appears to be headed in the right direction. The Gremlins, however, always seem to be headed in the right direction. On Friday, they will be headed to 4-0.•
Sharon 29, Slippery Rock 12 — The Rockets' defense is tough, but the offense has struggled. Not a good formula against a gifted Sharon team.•
Keystone 28, Union 16 — This could be my upset special. I have been impressed with the Golden Knights, even though they haven't scored on offense in two weeks.Zach Traister is a legitimate threat, and sophomore QB Trent Corle has shown flashes of brilliance. If they put it all together, Keystone could fall.•
Burrell 20, Freeport 19 — I flipped a coin on this one, but Phil Luckett didn't hear me right, so I have to pick Burrell.Sorry, Yellowjackets.•
Grove City 37, Franklin 8 — The Eagles have more dudes to carry the mail than the U.S. Postal Service — and they use all of them.Franklin has been outscored 155-14. Expect a lot of dudes carrying the rock this week for GC.I may even get a carry to two. Watch for my Heisman pose and my "Franklin Leap."•
Ford City 36, Summit Academy 13 — The Knights are outscoring their opponents in the fourth quarter.Unfortunately, the first three quarters count in high school football.Scoop would trash talk if he could talk.
