BC3 trustees OK contracts for staff

6-year deals run until June 2021

BUTLER TWP — The Butler County Community College trustees Tuesday approved two separate six-year contracts, one for secretarial employees and another for maintenance personnel.

The contracts start today and run through June 2021.

The biggest change in the plans regards health care coverage.

Employees previously received insurance directly from Highmark, but now they will get insurance through the Allegheny County Schools Health Insurance Consortium. Employees will contribute 10.5 percent of their premium rates.

Health care coverage also is being offered to retirees who had worked for the college for at least 10 years, but are not yet eligible for Medicare. Those individuals would pay 100 percent of the premium rate plus the consortium administrative fee.

A retiree plan has not been offered before.

Salary increases will be 3 percent each year for the first three years, and then 3.5 percent for the following 18 months from June 2018 to December 2019, and 3.25 percent from January 2020 to June 2021.

The contracts cover 60 full- and part-time secretarial staff, and 21 full- and part-time maintenance and custodial staff members.

Negotiations began about six months ago, said Linda Dodd, human resources director.
