Adolph Poli

Adolph Tony Poli, 83, of Gilpin Township, Pa., died at 5:25 a.m. Monday at his home.

He was born on Oct. 30, 1930, in Tarentum, Pa., to the late Benjamin Poli and Effie (Pometto) Poli.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Po (Doyle) Poli, on April 1, 2013.

He was employed as a special-education teacher with the Butler County schools and the Intermediate Unit No. 4; including Winfield Elementary, Saxonburg Elementary and Childrens Rehabilitation in Saxonburg, with 29 years of service until his retirement in 1990. He was formerly employed at the Creighton Plant of Pittsburgh Plate Glass from 1948 to 1952. He also taught CCD classes for six years at the former St. Catherine's church in Leechburg.

He served as a corporal with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was a member of the Christ The King Parish in Gilpin Township. He was a 1948 graduate of Tarentum High School, receiving his bachelors of science and masters in education from Clarion University.

He was a member of the Natrona council of Knights of Columbus, National Education Association, the PA State Education Association, and the United Commercial Travelers Council 465 of Butler. He was also a member of the Leechburg Area Museum and Historical Society, the Marconi Lodge in Leechburg and the Leechburg Area Community Association.

He was a former board member of and current president of the Lower Kiski Ambulance Service; former president of the Armstrong County Borough's Association, former member of and former president and vice president of the Leechburg Borough Council; former vice president and chairman of the Armstrong County Democratic Party, and former treasurer of the former Alle-Kiski Council of Governments.

He was one of the founding members of the Leechburg Area Recycling Center. He enjoyed helping special education children, serving the public, reading and gardening.

Survivors include his son, Anthony B. Poli (Martha) of Gilpin Township; his stepson, Gregory F. Paul (Claudia) of Leechburg; his daughter, Janel McKee of Leechburg; his stepdaughter, Nikki Akins (Tom) of Gilpin Township, and his 14 grandchildren, 19 great -grandchildren and his great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by his very special and loved daughter-in-law, Glenda (Shearer) Paul of Leechburg, numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his stepson, Leslie Paul; his brother, Richard Poli, and sister, Christina Jones.

POLI — The friends of Adolph Tony Poli, who died Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, will be welcomed by his family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Clawson Funeral Home, 170 Main St., Leechburg, where parting prayers of transfer will be recited at 9:15 a.m. Friday. A Christian funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Christ The King Parish, 125 Park Road, Gilpin Township, with the Rev. James H. Loew, O.S.B., officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell, with full military honors by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard.His family encourages contributions in his memory to the Lower Kiski Ambulance Service, P.O.
